By Michael C. Toney”Bellator is looking for fights for its first ever lightweight title defense, which is being touted as the biggest fight of the year.
The company announced the dates for the event on Thursday.
Bellator will announce its lineup for the Oct. 18 event on Twitter.
The main card of Bellator 170 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 20.
The main card will also air on Spike TV, Spike.com and UFC Fight Pass, the promotions said.
Bellator, which has been the top pay-per-view promotion in the United States since 2014, is expected to bring in more than $400 million in revenue for its next year.
The event will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between former Bellator champion Alexander Gustafsson and former UFC bantamweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
The bout will take on a bantamweights battle between former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and ex-Bellator lightweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
Bellators co-head of programming Joe Silva also announced on Thursday that his UFC Fight Night 108 show in Las Venezia, Costa Rica, will be the first Bellator event ever in the nation to feature a flyweights title fight.
The UFC is in talks with several of its former fighters to headline a Bellator show in Brazil, according to Silva.
The UFC has been a major sponsor of Bellators fights since 2011, but has yet to sign any new fighters to the promotion.
